10th Annual Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival
February 4 - March 31, 2022
In 2022, the Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival has as its theme “The Journey”. As it is the 10th anniversary of the festival, which takes place as the UAE celebrates its 50th anniversary, this annual celebration of contemporary art reflects on the journey of the festival, Ras Al Khaimah and the United Arab Emirates, and encourages us to consider our relationship with space, time, and the self.
I have arrived in Dubai, UAE to participate in the RAK Fine Arts Festival. Two of my works, Dissolving and Change, will be exhibited. I invite you on this 'journey' with me, from beginning to end. I will share what is happening on this page, so check in regularly.

Exploring Abu Dhabi
A walk on the beach, a visit to the area surrounding the Al Hosn fort and Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation, a wonderful visit to the Louvre Abu Dhabi, and a walk around the beautiful Jubail Mangrove Park at sunset.
Tuesday, February 1
Desert Explorations
Today was spent exploring the desert, visiting the Al Ain camel market and the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Grand Mosque. On the way home we encountered a caravan of camels.

Wednesday, February 2
Shortly after arriving in Ras Al Khaimah yesterday, I visited Al Jazira Al Hamra to check out the last preparations for the Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival. The photo is to give you an idea of the setting - a deserted fishing village which is currently a tentative UNESCO world heritage site. Wait until you see how it has been transformed with integrity, thoughtfulness, respect and elegance.

Grand Opening
The Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival celebrates a convening of journeys.
Artists were invited to consider the notion of the journey through the lens of ancestry, migration, national identity, and personal growth.
"House 3 explores the relationship between intimacy, spirituality, imagination, and the self, revealing the interconnection of personal growth with the intangible world. Outside, we are invited to consider a journey of self-actualization through the ethereal and sublime, while inside we are invited to do so through representations of dreams and narratives. This section of the exhibition asks us to reflect on our deep-rooted values and uncover what drives our journey of personal growth.”

In Dubai . . .
Having lived in Dubai it has been such a pleasure to return and rediscover the essence of the city.
The mosque of the late Mohamed Abdulkhaliq Gargash, referred to as The Mosque of Light. It is one of the first mosques in the UAE to be designed by a woman, Sumaya Dabbagh.
